Stay Healthy During Cold and Flu Season

Topics: NAESP Partner

Cold and flu season can be a challenging time for educators as the classroom becomes a hotspot for germs. As the seasons change and the holidays approach, now is the time to lead by example and enforce healthy habits to help stop the spread of illness-causing germs. Lysol and NAESP are proud to partner together and offer tips to get your school through cold and flu season:

  •  Disinfect High-Touch Classroom Surfaces: Lysol Disinfecting Wipes make it easy to clean and disinfect hard surfaces around the school. Disinfect frequently touched areas like desks and door handles as directed to kill 99.9 percent of viruses and bacteria and help protect your school from the spread of germs.
  • Encourage Proper Handwashing: A crucial step in helping to prevent the spread of cold and flu in the classroom is proper handwashing. Encourage students to wash their hands regularly with soap and water. Teach them the correct technique for thorough hand cleaning by scrubbing for at least 20 seconds.
  • Encourage the Flu Vaccine: As a school leader, you can help play a pivotal role in promoting the importance of flu vaccinations. Recommend students’ families and fellow educators to get educated on vaccinations. According to the CDC, individuals six months and older should get a flu vaccine every year.

Students are stronger together, so when we help protect students from the spread of illness-causing germs, we’re not just protecting them physically—we’re helping them be present at school so they can learn, grow, and thrive.

Lysol is proud to support healthy habits in schools across the country through its HERE for Healthy Schools initiative, which provides physical and digital resources to schools across the nation. Teachers, administrators, and school leaders can find resources and downloadable activities on handwashing, germ transmission, and more by visiting Lysol.com/HERE.
