Spring Cleaning Tips for Schools

Topics: NAESP Partner

The school year is already halfway over by spring, but the warm weather this time of year inspires renewal and rejuvenation. Spring cleaning is a common tradition at home that can be adopted at school to signify revitalized energy and inspire fresh ideas among staff and students. Prioritize spring cleaning at your school with your custodial staff and encourage a quick office or classroom refresh with your educators and faculty.

  1. Disinfect to kill 99.9 percent of germs. Work with your custodial staff to implement a disinfecting routine around the school and focus on high-touch areas like desks, doorknobs, and stairwell handles. Consider restocking your educators’ classrooms with disinfecting products like Lysol Disinfecting Wipes or Lysol Disinfectant Spray so they can kill 99.9 percent of germs, when used as directed, in their classroom.
  2. Give your school walls a refresh. Replace any torn, discolored, or irrelevant décor displayed in the classroom, like outdated art projects and old charts, with bright and exciting posters. If your school needs new décor, visit Lysol Here for Healthy Schools to download and print colorful posters for free. Each poster includes a kid-friendly reminder of a healthy habit like handwashing or covering coughs and sneezes.
  3. Let fresh air in. School windows were likely closed over winter and preserved stale air. As the weather warms up, air out classrooms by opening windows. When and where safe, also open doors to help improve airflow.
  4. Keep your personal space organized. A clean and organized workspace can help improve focus and productivity. De-clutter your desk workspace, and encourage your educators to do the same, by recycling old notes and paper, bringing home personal items, and discarding unused clutter that take up valuable space.

Lysol is proud to support healthy habits in schools across the country through its HERE for Healthy Schools initiative, which provides physical and digital resources to schools across the nation.
