Sherrie Raven
Sherrie Raven, works with districts in the Wallace Partnerships for Social and Emotional Learning Initiative (PSELI) and in the Collaborating Districts Initiative (CDI). She was awarded the Mary Utne-O’Brien Award from CASEL in 2013. Sherrie was the founding director of the Department of Social and Emotional Learning in the Austin, Texas, Independent School District. Since the department’s formation in 2011, the work of social and emotional learning has expanded to all 130 schools in the district. The department worked with educators to ensure that every student receives explicit instruction in SEL skills in an environment that is supportive and that reinforces the skills all day. Prior to her work in SEL, Sherrie was an elementary principal, special education coordinator, assistant principal, and middle school and elementary teacher. She taught in Austin, Texas; Chappaqua, New York; and Hirosaki, Japan.
