Suzanne Gray is a ten-year principal with seven years of service at Old Bethpage Elementary School,where she has created a climate placing students at the center of all of decision-making. She is described by the school board president as “an amazing educator and a shining example of how handson leadership and collaboration can create an exciting, inviting, and engaging learning environment.”Gray embraces technology integration to better connect students with their work, each other, and the world, encouraging the use of Skype, iMovie, Prezi, and multimedia curriculums, empowering her staff to maximize technology while continuing to prioritize personal connection. Old Bethpage has also embraced project-based learning under Gray’s tutelage, with a focus on developing global citizens who value the impact they have on the environment and the world. Gray has established herself as a veritable expert in curriculum development and instructional leadership in the district, providing professional development sessions for other principals and staff to help initiate and expand new literacy initiatives. She has also organized “share and steal” sessions, inviting principals from different districts to gather at each other’s schools for instructional walk-throughs and collaborative learning. She has served as Presenter and Elementary School Representative for LICAWE since 2014 and has a B.A. in Sociology from SUNY New Paltz, a M.S. in Elementary and Special Education from Touro College, and a S.A.S. from Baruch College.
