When Stephanie E. Jackson became principal of Parkview Elementary School in 2013, the building culture was marked by low morale and resistance to change. Thanks to Jackson’s persistence and passion, the climate at Parkview has shifted greatly over the last nine years, and the school is now a place where visitors take note of the positive energy and teachers and students look forward to coming to school each day. Jackson’s collaborative spirit has been key to this successful turnaround. For example, over the past four years, Jackson led a comprehensive process engaging the building leadership team, staff, students, and community members to articulate new school mission and vision statements, along with collective commitments to achieve them. While the pandemic has necessitated some revisions, these statements are now the backbone of a dynamic approach to school management. Jackson models a growth mindset in her leadership, constantly refining systems to meet the needs of all students. The school’s tiered system of support for students with social and emotional struggles, for example, has evolved over her tenure to incorporate a proactive, team approach to behavioral challenges. Jackson holds a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Missouri Valley College, a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Missouri, a Master of Arts in School Administration from Lindenwood University, and an Education Specialist degree from William Woods University.
