In his four years as principal of Alta View Elementary School, Scott R. Jameson has built a reputation as a relationship-builder with an ability to actively listen, communicate empathetically, and build consensus through deliberative engagement with all stakeholders. These qualities are seen in his collaborative management of the School Community Council, which invites feedback and input from family and community members, and the Building Leadership Team, which engages teachers and staff in the school improvement process. In this work, Jameson has shown himself adept at cultivating leadership in others, such that Alta View teachers are highly engaged and empowered leaders in the school, helping decide how to best leverage state funding, how to enhance school safety, and co-creating intervention plans tailored to the individual needs of each student through work in PLCs, which Jameson views as the heart of the school community. Jameson takes a facilitative leadership approach to leading PLCs, presenting problems to teachers, creating space for them to take ownership of that challenge, and providing resources necessary to implement a solution. He has introduced a variety of resources for students struggling with behavior, including a Citizenship Class alternative to lunch detention, a Wellness Room, and Calming Corners. Jameson holds a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and a Master of Education in Educational Leadership and Foundations from Brigham Young University, as well as an ESL Endorsement from the University of Utah.
