Projects

“Operation Support Our Troops”

Operation Support Our Troops is a non-profit organization whose mission is to support the morale and well-being of American forces by providing comfort, resources and education to them and their families both while they are deployed in harm’s way and after their return. The Nancy Young Student Council partnered with the PTA to collect items that could be sent to our service men and women overseas. The school wide collection took place from October 10 through October 18. After the collection took place, Student Council members went to the facility to pack stockings for the troops for Christmas. These stocking stuffing dates occurred on October 18.

“Making of Sack Lunches for Hesed House”

On Thursday, December 7, Student Council members came to school from 8:00 – 9:00 am to make sack lunches for the working residents of Illinois’ second largest homeless shelter, Hesed House. At our November meeting and prior to making sack lunches, students attended a meeting where they were briefed about the function of a homeless shelter and the needs of those being food insecure. Goals of the project were to help others that need food, recognize that we can help others, and understand the daily struggles of people that are homeless.
