Judy Castrogiovanni has served as Jefferson Elementary’s principal for 11 years. Castrogiovanni’s colleagues laud her as a truly exceptional principal with a relentless drive to find success for all students and a commitment to closing Jefferson’s achievement gap through individualized student support. Her belief that leadership starts from a place of love has helped her tap into the enthusiasm, commitment, and creativity of all her school’s stakeholders as she has led Jefferson to be a place where each student thrives. The relationships she has nurtured with students and their families and the community have led to major successes inside the classroom and out. Castrogiovanni implemented a daily Intervention Period where teachers and specialized instructional aides work with individual students and groups to target specific learning needs, leading to Jefferson being named a PA Title I Distinguished School and a 2019 National Blue Ribbon School. Castrogiovanni has been instrumental in implementing mindfulness and anti-bullying programming into each school day, resulting in a vibrant and supportive school community. Another of Castrogiovanni’s proudest achievements is a successful local fundraising event for school playgrounds that resulted in beautiful new equipment and a stronger and healthier community filled with pride. Castrogiovanni received a B.A. in English/Secondary Education and an M.S. in School Administration from the University of Scranton.
