Janell Bagwell

Dr. Janell Bagwell has spent six of her 12 years as principal leading Eugene Field Elementary (EFE), a K-5 International Baccalaureate School. In striving toward what she calls IB’s “ultimate summative assessment” of turning learning into action, Dr. Bagwell has effectively cultivated an environment that inspires students to be active participants in the classroom and in the community. To this end, she has fostered a school-wide vision that success lies beyond a test score and in the development of the whole child, a vision put into practice through concrete opportunities for service learning and student action projects. In 2015, she launched the IGNiTE initiative to supply EFE students with equitable access to 21st century learning tools, while supporting teachers with professional development focused on digital citizenship and blended instruction practices. With an eye toward instilling an appreciation for other cultures in our global society, Bagwell has created a partnership with the Amity International Intern Program to bring year-long volunteers to EFE from Spanish-speaking countries. The interns offer cultural enrichment and Spanish language immersion while giving every EFE student the chance to build relationships with people from around the world. Dr. Bagwell holds an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis from University of Missouri and an M.S. in Educational Administration from the Missouri State University, as well as a B.S. in Elementary Education with a minor in Mathematics from Evangel University.
