In his nearly 13 years as principal of Clarence A. Piggott Academy of International Studies, David Hudzick has led the transformation of a formerly struggling neighborhood school into an award-winning magnet school. Today, following Hudzick’s implementation of a successful International Baccalaureate program, Piggott no longer faces attrition, but is widely sought after and known as a safe and caring school with a culture of high achievement, equitable opportunity, and generative risk-taking. Rigorous academics are a top priority at the school, with teachers engaged in focused collaborations to differentiate and tailor instruction to student needs, while students take on additional responsibility in their learning by leading parent-teacher conferences. Hudzick’s leadership is not limited to academics. He also works to position Piggott as a multipurpose community hub by advancing whole-child initiatives that aim to enrich student lives beyond the classroom, nurturing student interests through varied extracurricular opportunities. He takes great pride in witnessing the impact of these efforts in students who go on to graduate as confident, well-rounded individuals. Hudzick has long been active with local charities and youth groups and is a trusted mentor for aspiring administrators. He was a 2008 participant in the Harvard Graduate School’s Institute for School Leadership and holds an M.A. in Administration and Supervision from the University of Phoenix and a B.S. in Education from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
