Practitioner’s Corner: Group Interviews

By Steven A. FortePrincipal, March/April 2011 I have figured out a practical way to interview many teacher candidates in a short time while being able to compare them head to head. When I held interviews in the past for teaching positions, I would complete the standard interview schedule: two to three candidates per hour, one at a time. It would take at least an entire day to be able to see eight to 10 candidates. Allotting this much time for me and the committee members was difficult considering all that goes on during a typical day in an elementary school.
