Call for Input: Updating the NAESP Platform and Resolutions

Communicator
December 2013, Volume 37, Issue 4

Elementary and middle-level principals work tirelessly on behalf of the students of this nation. How principals think K-8 education should work is summarized in the NAESP Platform. The NAESP advocacy staff uses the belief statements in this document in its work with members of Congress and U.S. Department of Education.

Each November, the representatives on the NAESP Resolutions Committee work to update the statements to accurately reflect the realities of the profession. The results of the Committee’s diligent work this year are changes (edits, combinations, and deletions) to 24 resolutions.

Member feedback is critical to the resolution process. Please review the statements and offer any comments or suggestions before January 24, 2014, by sending an e-mail to mmorris@naesp.org.

The timeline to review the proposed resolutions is as follows:

  • The Resolutions Committee will review member feedback between January 24, 2014 and February 3, 2014, and determine if further revisions are necessary.
  • On February 5, 2014 at 4:00 p.m. (Eastern), the Resolutions Committee will hold an Open Hearing conference call where any NAESP member may discuss the proposed resolutions. Call 866-290-3067, and enter conference code 02489 to join the call.
  • One week later, on February 11, 2014 at 4:00 p.m. (Eastern), NAESP members may join a Committee conference call to learn the decision of the Committee on proposed changes presented during the Open Hearing conference call. Call 866-290-3067, and enter conference code 02489 to join the call.

The Committee will present the proposed resolutions to the Delegate Assembly, held in conjunction with the National Leaders Conference on February 23-25, 2014.
