NAESP Statement on President Biden’s FY 2024 Budget Request

We applaud President Biden’s FY24 budget request for federal education programs that includes substantial increases for Title I, special education, and mental health services and expands universal preschool programs, but we are disappointed that no increase was provided for Title II.

NAESP has issued the following statement on President Joe Biden’s FY 2024 budget request:

“NAESP applauds President Biden’s FY24 budget request for federal education programs,” said NAESP Executive Director L. Earl Franks, Ed.D., CAE. “The substantial increases for Title I, special education, and mental health services are vitally important investments in our schools and to support the students most in need.

“We also appreciate the proposal to expand universal preschool programs to help all children enter kindergarten ready to learn. In addition, the $40 million request for principal professional development is welcome, though we are disappointed that no increase was provided for the broader professional development state grant program (Title II) that supports all educators.

“Overall, this budget request is a helpful starting point as we advocate for the resources needed to help all students, principals, and schools succeed.”
