Background
Having a well-prepared, well-supported principal in every school is vital for ensuring that all students have access to and can succeed in a well-rounded education. The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), which was signed into law in 2015, provides greater flexibility and significant opportunities for states and districts to identify local needs and build capacity among educators to meet those needs.

Title II, Part A of the Every Student Succeeds Act is the only federal funding stream dedicated to the professional development of teachers and principals, 3 percent of which can be set aside for statewide programs, such as residencies and mentoring and induction programs, to improve principal and school leader capacity. Tell Congress to increase Title II, Part A funding to increase professional development for educators.
