Mr. Scott Borba says his goal as principal of Alice N. Stroud Elementary School is to provide
students with “rich experiences that will broaden their views, expand their perspectives, and
empower them to not just be one of the 7.2 billion people in this world, but to really make a
difference.” To this end, Borba is a passionate advocate of education for the 21st century and has
championed teaching models that increase student achievement while centering skills of global
citizenship, creativity, communication, collaboration, and critical thinking. To implement this
vision, Borba has led Stroud’s PLCs in developing instruction for blended learning classrooms,
using individualized software and learning games to differentiate instruction for all students. As
a result, student achievement has increased school-wide, and Stroud teachers have taken on
leadership in implementing the model on a district level. Students also receive specialized
instruction in areas such as a coding, chemistry, and robotics through weekly participation in the
school’s STEM lab, which has been developed under Borba’s leadership. In addition to 11 years
of service to children and families as a principal, Borba impacts future teachers and
administrators as an adjunct professor and instructor for Brandman University and California
State University-Stanislaus, where he teaches “The Art & Craft of Teaching” and “School Law,”
respectively. Borba holds an M.A. in Education and a B.A. in Liberal Studies from CSUStanislaus.
