Why do you think student leadership development is important for all students?

As the School Counselor I’ve had the opportunity to see firsthand how student leadership impacts individual students and the school community. It helps to develop essential skills such as communication and problem solving skills. Students learn how to express their ideas clearly, listen to others and work effectively as part of a team. Leadership opportunities teach students to think critically, analyze situations and make informed decisions. It matters because these skills are not just valuable in school but also in future careers and personal relationships. Leadership opportunities also help to build self-confidence and self-esteem. When students see the positive impact they can make, it enhances their belief in their own abilities and helps students to feel heard and valued through meaningful contributions.
