Michelle J. Rubidoux-Wilson has served Alamosa Elementary School for 25 years, taking the helm as principal six years ago following 18 years as a classroom teacher and one as interim principal and dean. Rubidoux-Wilson’s extensive experience and dedication shine through in her approach to administration and instructional leadership, which balances teacher autonomy and academic consistency to create equitable learning experiences for all students. Her self-proclaimed purpose is to inspire, guide, and drive school improvement, and she views her commitment to positive culture, adaptability, and the use of strategic common curricular tools as the keys to her success. Rubidoux-Wilson takes a “what” and “how” approach to aligning instruction with standards and has supported each grade-level team in researching, piloting, and selecting intervention frameworks with complementary SEL programming to ensure a genuine sense of belonging for the school’s diverse student body. Under her leadership, common assessments serve not only as a means to target intervention but also to cultivate transparent cross-team collaboration. Rubidoux-Wilson is especially proud to have maintained a high level of connection with teachers, students, and families in the transition to distance learning during the pandemic, an especially important feat for a rural school with a large low-income population. Rubidoux-Wilson holds an M.Ed. in Educational Leadership, a B.A. in Elementary Education, and endorsements in Reading and Culturally and Linguistically Diverse from Adams State University.
