Why do you think student leadership development is important for all students?
Student Leadership development is important because it builds personal growth. Children build skills that make a great impact in their daily lives and future. As sponsors we value leadership because we work under an amazing principal who is always empowering and encouraging us adults to become a better version of who we are and what we do daily. As advisors we do the same with our students. We hold high expectations for them and hope to foster these children throughout the year. We support and build on our school’s vision and mission, but also as a Student Council representative. We love it when students lead and serve our campus, it teaches others what it’s like to work in collaboration, students develop problem solving skills and strategic thinking. Building student leaders and having a group on our campus also makes a great impact in our school community. Our students have a voice, and our government exercises that voice for their peers to bring up any needs or concerns. Our parents also come together to serve our teachers and staff by being volunteers, helping around the school and beautifying our building. Being a member of Student Council children gain experiences that prepares them for future leadership roles. As advisors we hope that Student council builds independence and boosts students’ self-esteem. We hope to provide opportunities for children to be social, work and learn with children of all different backgrounds, cultures, and learning styles. As second-year advisors we have seen students unfold talents and put them to use. So, our mission every year is to not only build leaders in the Student Council organization but to also impact all those other students who surround us every day. This is why our Student Council leadership is so important to the development of future leaders.
