“Red Ribbon Week Awareness”

The 4th grade Leadership Group completed a Red Ribbon Week Awareness project to educate and develop student character in order to improve campus culture. Griffin Elementary is a CKH campus (Capturing Kids Hearts). As a CKH campus, we implement various strategies to build relationships and teach certain character development skills. In the month of October, the CKH word of the month is Self-Direct. The leadership group wanted to do a project that ties together the CKH culture and Red Ribbon Week. The students did various activities to educate the students on safety, drug awareness, healthy habits, and incorporate the CKH program in order to strengthen campus culture. The leadership group researched Red Ribbon Week and wrote scripts to film videos to put in the Morning Meeting Guidance Lessons presented to every class in the school. The students wanted to promote
character education by filming videos to be presented to their peers. In the videos, they referenced what each  student can do to make healthy choices in different aspects relating to Red Ribbon Week. This correlates with CKH by empowering the students and teaching about Self Direction. They also created a positive campus culture by decorating for Red Ribbon Week and passing out Drug free pledges and red ribbon stickers.

“Valogram Fundraiser”

The leadership group completed a fundraiser selling Valograms to the parents, staff and students! The purpose of the fundraiser was to improve campus culture and use the money to donate to the community. In the fundraiser the students sold a personalized note and candy hearts to be delivered during Valentine’s Week. This helped parents and guardians feel connected to the school and their students by creating personalized notes and gifting candy to be delivered directly to the students. Staff members and parents could even buy one for other staff members to show their appreciation. This improved Campus Culture. The leadership group raised $300 and was able to donate this money to the animal shelter! The leadership group planned a visit to the animal shelter to volunteer in the community by reading to the animals!
