Projects

“Operation Support Our Troops”

Operation Support Our Troops is a non for profit organization whose mission is to support the morale and well-being of American forces by providing comfort, resources and education to them and their families both while they are deployed in harm’s way and after their return. The Nancy Young Student Council has partnered with the PTA to collect items that could be sent to our service men and women overseas. After the collection took place, Student Council members went to the facility to pack stockings for the troops for Christmas.

“Making of Sack Lunches for Hesed House”

On Thursday, December 5, Student Council members came to school from 8:00 – 9:00 am to make sack lunches for the working residents of Illinois’ second largest homeless shelter, Hesed House. We made 200 sack lunches to feed the working homeless residents of the Hesed House Shelter and felt that it made a difference. At our November meeting and prior to making sack lunches, students attended a meeting where they were briefed about the function of a homeless shelter and the needs of those being food insecure. The Student Council reflected on the experience after the event and overall enjoyed helping others out and creating the lunches for Hesed House residents.
