NAESP Staffer Danny Carlson Takes New Role at U.S. Department of Education

Associate executive director of Policy and Advocacy departs NAESP after a strong record of serving the association and its members.

It is with mixed emotions that we announce that Danny Carlson, associate executive director, Policy and Advocacy, has moved on from NAESP to serve as chief of staff in the Office of Elementary and Secondary Education at the U.S. Department of Education.

Danny’s deep pre-K–12 policy experience at federal, state, and district levels helped reinforce NAESP’s mission to lead in the advocacy and support for elementary and middle-level principals and other education leaders in their commitment for all children. During his tenure at NAESP, Danny worked hard to elevate the principal voice in policy debates, boost federal funding for schools to help principals lead during these challenging times, and communicate with federal policymakers about the on-the-ground challenges principals face in their schools every day.

“Although we are incredibly excited for Danny, we are sad that he will no longer be working at NAESP,” said NAESP Executive Director L. Earl Franks, Ed.D., CAE. “I know you will join me in thanking him for his nearly 5 years of dedicated, passionate, and tireless service to the NAESP organization, the members we serve, and the principal profession. He will certainly be missed.”

Danny’s last day at NAESP was Friday, June 3. Rest assured, we have already started identifying and selecting Danny’s replacement so that the great work he began will continue.
