As principal of Franklin Township School, Lindsay Gooditis has leveraged her passion for sustainability, digital instruction, and early childhood education to fulfill the school’s mission of nurturing “responsible, respectful members of a democratic society.” From pre-K through eighth grade, Franklin Township students have access to a broad range of learning activities that allow them to develop hands-on skills, self-awareness, and a sense of civic belonging. Under Gooditis’ leadership, the school has earned recognition for its numerous sustainability initiatives that enrich learning and elevate school culture. For example, students have the chance to learn and practice electric vehicle engineering and energy conservation. Fifth grade students perform regular energy audits at the school and use their findings to propose changes that make Franklin Township a better steward of the environment. Gooditis has also secured funding for a school garden and hydroponics program. In addition to these efforts, Gooditis has integrated principles of trauma-informed care into the school’s teaching culture and recently secured grant funding to expand access and improve the quality of the school’s pre-K program. Franklin Township received Silver Certification through the Sustainable Jersey for Schools program four years in a row, received Digital Schools Star Recognition in 2021, and was named an International Green School and received Digital Star Recognition in 2021. Gooditis holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the College of New Jersey and a doctorate degree from Centenary University.
