In 2020, when educators across the country were rapidly adjusting to remote instruction and the complex needs of their students and communities, Brittney Mobley was also managing the process of opening her county’s newest elementary school. Mobley oversaw every aspect of the opening of Frances Meeks Elementary, where she continues as principal, including construction, resource development, and staffing. Opening the pre-K-5 school in the context of a pandemic was a feat in its own right, but Mobley has already been called upon to expand classroom and special instruction in the years since, as the area has experienced high population growth. Mobley recently introduced an Elementary Agriculture program, which has sparked new community partnerships and provided students with hands-on learning experiences illuminating the real-world impacts of agriculture. On top of managing this change within her own school, since 2021, Mobley has led her district’s Standards Based Grading Action Team, working with educators across all elementary schools to develop standards-based rubrics and assess student work samples with a focus on one grade level per year. All the while, Mobley has maintained a sharp focus on academic improvement at Frances Meeks. The school boasts over 95 percent content mastery and growing numbers of students qualifying for gifted education. Mobley holds a B.S. in Early Childhood Education, an M.Ed. in Educational Leadership, and an Ed.D. in Curriculum Studies from Georgia Southern University.
