For 11 years, Courtney Bailey has served as principal of Cairo American College (CAC), a middle school in Maadi, Egypt, where he also previously served as assistant principal for three years. In that time, Bailey has implemented data-driven instructional practices and fostered a culture of continuous professional and academic improvement, leading to significant academic improvements. The school recently introduced a math lab and online vocabulary learning system, both of which have resulted in higher test scores, grades, and student engagement. These gains are also the result of Bailey’s culture-building efforts, which include initiatives to combat bullying, build student leadership, and promote healthy social and emotional development–all of which have contributed to decreased disciplinary referrals. Parental and community involvement also plays a key role at CAC, which hosts an annual International Festival, a robust guest speaker program, and other initiatives contributing to school pride and belonging. CAC students also benefit from a range of socially and academically enriching programs, including annual travel to different parts of Egypt and a range of exploratory courses in the fine arts, performing arts, and design technology. Before taking on his current post, Bailey served as a physical education and athletic director at schools in China and Cambodia. He holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Education from Brandon University and the College of New Jersey, respectively, and is a doctoral candidate at Bethel University.
