In her six years as principal of the K-8 Henry W. Moore School, Becky Wing has taken a hands-on, collaborative, listen-first approach to leadership. Her goal is for everyone who walks through the doors of the school to feel safe, valued, and that they belong. Wing has led the implementation of student-centered programs at Moore, including Responsive Classroom and morning meetings, which have had a dramatic impact on students’ behavior, engagement, and peer relationships. As an instructional leader, Wing is facilitative and unifying, supporting her grade level teams in setting instructional priorities that build focus and accountability for student achievement. She also works tirelessly to create conditions that turn high expectations into high achievement by overseeing a comprehensive MTSS that includes a dedicated academic and behavioral support team who teachers can seek out for consultations and problem-solving support. Impressively, student achievement recently surpassed pre-COVID levels. Wing is active in Moore’s PTO and is sensitive to the needs of working families, hosting regular extended business hours and working tirelessly in 2020-2021 to maintain an in-person learning option for families challenged by the demands of remote learning. Wing became a principal after two decades as an assistant principal, a district-level program director, and a classroom teacher. She holds a B.S. from the University of Maine at Farmington, an M.Ed. from Boston College, and a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies from Plymouth State University.
