In her 17 years as a school administrator, Ashley Hoggatt has come to embrace feedback as the lifeblood of leadership and reflection as “one of the most powerful strategies for school improvement.” This philosophy permeates Hoggatt’s approach to change management. Facilitated reflection is often her first resort when addressing emerging issues or attempting to identify the changes needed to improve conditions for students and staff at D.D. Kirkland Elementary. Hoggatt proactively surveys her staff to assess school safety, professional wellbeing, and better understand the impacts of trauma on students and staff. The insights Hoggart gains from these exercises are immediately reinvested to continually nurture a healthy school environment where no matter the burden of administrative demands, “people come before papers.” Hoggatt extends the same curiosity and transparency to Kirkland families, recognizing the vital educational role that parents and loved ones play and taking deliberate action to consistently engage them in the learning process. Communication also drives the school’s effective MTSS structure, which leverages data to maximize resources, refine instructional practice, and ensure that all Kirkland students have the chance to thrive. Hoggart is a voracious learner and community servant, active in professional associations and serving on the boards of multiple community organizations. She holds a B.S. in Elementary Education from Oklahoma State University and an M.Ed. in Public School Administration from the University of Central Oklahoma.
