5 Things: November/December 2019

The work of a principal is never done. You do it all, and you love it. But even principals require support. We want to keep you in the know about how your Association is serving you while you serve kids. Here are five things you need to know about:

Honoring APs.

The National Outstanding Assistant Principals (NOAP) awards program recognizes pre-K–8 assistant principals (APs) who are doing a superb job in their roles. At NAESP’s 2018 annual conference in Spokane, Washington, past NAESP president Eric S. Cardwell recognized NOAP winners such as Marché Phillips (pictured), assistant principal of Chickasaw Elementary School in Olive Branch, Mississippi. The nomination period ends March 27, 2020. Learn more

Welcome to the board.

NAESP Executive Director L. Earl Franks, Ed.D., CAE, was elected to the board of the Trust for Insuring Educators. NAESP was instrumental in establishing this trust in 1973. Since then, it’s grown to almost 70 member associations that work to support and protect their members. Learn more

Your voice in Washington.

Since the 116th U.S. Congress convened in January 2019, NAESP’s advocacy team has shared principals’ priorities and concerns with more than 100 congressional offices. Top funding issues for NAESP members: mental health and well-being, social-emotional learning, and school safety. Learn more

Donors choose you.

NAESP partner DonorsChoose.org will be giving back in a big way during the NAESP Pre-K–8 Principals Conference in Louisville, Kentucky, in July 2020. Four NAESP members will each receive a $2,500 gift card to DonorsChoose.org during the closing general session—but you have to be present to win. Learn more
