Louise K. Seitsinger
Tiogue Elementary School
Coventry Public Schools
Coventry, Rhode Island

With a confident attitude and a renewed vision, Louise Seitsinger has been the principal of Tiogue Elementary School for the past five years. During that time, she has been able to maintain a steady increase in academic achievement, with average growth of 15 percent for reading and math scores across all K-5 grade levels in the past two years. Clear expectations, a behavioral (PBIS) program, intervention strategies, and a new “Bring Your Own Device” initiative have all contributed to students' success. Seitsinger also facilitated the creation of a new school vision: “Tiogue School: Where Everybody is Somebody.” She encouraged her students to vote on a new mascot, they named it (“Brave”), and even wrote an original song about it with the help of the chorus teacher. Furthermore, she is constantly learning and sharing new strategies through her involvement in professional organizations. She is a member of the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, the district committees for Strategic Planning, Safety/Security, Homework Steering, the district team for the National Center of Intensive Intervention, and is a Board Member for the Rhode Island Instructional Leadership Academy. Prior to her position at Tiogue, Seitsinger was a teacher for fourteen years and a principal for six years in Rhode Island schools. She holds a B.S. in Elementary/Special Education from Rhode Island College and an M.A. in Administration from Providence College.
