Lynley D. Schroering
Luhr Elementary School
Jefferson County Public Schools
Louisville, Kentucky

Maintaining academic growth and developing a positive climate are among Lynley Schroering's most significant accomplishments in her thirteen years as principal of Luhr Elementary School. Test scores in writing and science are consistently above the district average, and in science, they are consistently above the state average. Furthermore, reading and math scores have been improving for the past two years. Schroering has implemented WIN ("What I Need") groups, MAP assessments, and other programs in order to ensure student achievement. "I firmly believe that schools must provide students and the adults with a sense of belonging before any real learning is possible," says Schroering. At Luhr, students work together on numerous projects including fundraising for The Crusade for Children and creating care packages for soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan. Students are honored for their accomplishments in "Lion's Pride Award" assemblies, which recognize grade-level achievements, and the "Schroering's Scholars" program, which promotes excellence in social studies. Schroering also provides support on an individual level—for example, by providing transportation to an after-school program when a student's parents are unable to do so. She is naturally compassionate and works with multiple organizations such as Dare to CARE, Fund for the ARTS, and Metro United Way. She holds a Bachelor's from the University of Kentucky, a Master's from the University of Louisville, and a Rank 1 Certification from Indiana University Southeast.
