Michael Schooler
International Community School of Addis Ababa
U.S. Department of State – Office of Overseas Schools
Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

During his nineteen years as a principal, Michael Schooler has acquired a wealth of experiences which have enabled him to lead at the international level. In his previous position at Bennett Elementary (Fort Collins, CO), Schooler facilitated the last stage of the candidacy process for Bennett to become an official International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme school. After that, he became even more involved in the IB as a Workshop Leader, Consultant, and Accreditation Team Leader. In 2013, he became principal of the International Community School of Addis Ababa and is currently in the process of implementing the IB's Primary Years Programme there as well. By fostering personal growth and creativity, he has been able to increase the performance of his students and staff alike. Students develop e-portfolios and participate in goal-setting conferences to keep track of their own progress. Teachers and staff participate in leadership teams, classes, and workshops in order to hone their skills and better contribute to student achievement. As an advocate for students with special needs, Schooler has implemented Professional Learning Communities, Response to Intervention efforts, and Child Study Teams in order to create a fully supportive learning environment.  As a community leader, Schooler regularly volunteers for Ethiopia's Mercy Fellowship Feeding Center and the Council for Exceptional Children. He holds a B.S. from Angelo State University and an M.Ed. from [Southwest] Texas State University.
