Random Lake Elementary School
School District of Random Lake
Random Lake, Wisconsin

As the twelve-year principal of Random Lake Elementary, Sandra Mountain has developed a strong, collective focus on student achievement and quality instruction. One of her most significant accomplishments has been creating an effective Response to Intervention (RTI) program which began at the school level and eventually spread throughout the district. As a result, both parents and teachers have become equal partners in fostering student growth. A key component of Mountain's RTI system is the CARES (Collaborative Approach for Reaching Every Student), which she participates in alongside parents and staff. Every six to eight weeks, the team comes together to examine student data and identify necessary interventions. According to her colleagues, Mountain is conscious of current educational trends and is always happy to share her knowledge. “Each time someone from our staff attends a workshop, they come back commenting on how well-prepared and informed they were prior to the conference,” say teachers Laurie Lundgren and Rebecca Rauwerdink. In addition to being principal, Mountain also acts as the Curriculum Director, ELL Coordinator, Homeless Liaison, Title I Coordinator, and District Assessment Coordinator. She belongs to the Association of Wisconsin School Administrators and the National Association of Professional Women, and is the Community Coordinator for the Program of Academic Exchange. She holds a B.S. and a Specialist Certificate from the University of Wisconsin as well as an M.S. from Cardinal Stritch University.
