Elizabeth J. Moore
Pinch Elementary School
Kanawha County Schools
Elkview, West Virginia

In her eight years at Pinch Elementary, Principal Elizabeth Moore has used innovative leadership strategies and secured new technologies to effectively fulfill her school's motto: “Unleashing Student Potential.” Soon after her arrival, Moore implemented Stephen Covey's “Leader in Me” program. As a result, students have acquired lifelong skills which they have learned to embrace beyond their time at Pinch. “My oldest daughter will be entering high school next year and still talks about how making good habits on a consistent basis helps make her school life flow much easier,” says parent Raelena Anderson. Moore describes Pinch as a “leader in technology” and has obtained numerous resources to enhance student learning. Currently, nine classrooms have a one-to-one student/iPad ratio; students also use Green Screen, iMovie, and Keynote apps for various projects. In the classroom, teachers use the Remind 101 app to send messages and photos to parents throughout the day. Moore recently obtained a $34,000 grant to provide Legos in every classroom, and a group of fifth graders were invited to present their Lego robotics projects at the Governer's STEM Conference. For the last two years, Pinch has been named a “Success School” based on state assessments. Moore currently serves as a Mentor Principal for the Kanawha County Leadership Academy. She holds a B.S. from Baldwin Wallace College and an M.A. from the West Virginia College of Graduate Studies.
