Ross G. Lunceford
Lincoln Elementary School
Ogden School District
Ogden, Utah

During his thirteen-year career as a principal, Ross Lunceford has worked at five different schools. At each school, he has been able to maintain high standards and instill the belief in his favorite Aristotle quote: “We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, therefore, is not an act, but a habit.” In his previous position at Horace Mann Elementary, Lunceford developed instructional systems which led the school to become the highest-poverty Title I school in the district (and one of few in the state) to earn an “A” grade on Utah's SAGE assessments. With guided reading, continuous monitoring, and online programs tailored to each student, his approach to student achievement is individualized and detail-oriented. At Lincoln Elementary, he has also been able to create a 21st Century learning experience with the use of SMART Boards, mobile iPads, and a one-to-one technology initiative for grades 4-6. To increase parental involvement, he tries to get every parent in the building so they can experience their child's learning environment first-hand; he also makes a habit of sharing student data and goals. Lunceford has served as the President of the Ogden Administrators Association (OAA) since 2013. He was honored as OAA's “Instructional Leader of the Year” in 2014 and “Innovator of the Year” in 2015. He holds a B.A. from Weber State University and a Master's degree from the University of Utah.
