Mary Beth Grove
East York Elementary School
York Suburban School District
York, Pennsylvania

For the past eight years, Mary Beth Grove has been the principal of East York Elementary, a small yet diverse school commonly known to students as “the best place on Earth!” Grove's commitment to success has been adopted by students and teachers alike. In 2010, East York was named a Title I School of Distinction; just last year, it scored a School Performance Profile rating of 89.9. Using block scheduling, WIN (What I Need) sessions, a student data wall, and intense collaboration with specialists, Grove has taken an active, hands-on approach to ensuring student achievement. She also works hard to support teachers by providing leadership opportunities, a professional learning book club, and technologies such as SMART Response, SMART Boards, and student chrome books and netbooks. Those who know Grove see her as energetic and caring. “It is not uncommon to see Dr. Grove giving hugs, high-fives, and words of encouragement and/or praise to students,” says Victoria Gross, Director of Educational Services. Grove is a leader beyond East York, as well. She currently serves on the Educational Leadership Steering Committee at York College and was also a Mentor Principal for its Educational Administration program from 2009-2014. She has been a presenter and guest instructor for various schools and programs across the region. She holds a B.S. from Frostburg State University, an M.A. from Western Maryland College, and a Doctorate degree from Immaculata University.
