Scott W. Drue
Aloha-Huber Park K-8 School
Beaverton School District
Beaverton, Oregon

In his eight years as principal of Aloha-Huber Park School, Scott Drue has developed a collaborative, strategic approach to ensuring the success of all 1,000 K-8 students. “Here, every one of our students has a personalized academic plan and profile, designed to accelerate their learning, beginning with the skills that they already possess,” explains Drue. Along with parents and teachers, students attend goal-setting conferences and are monitored monthly for their progress. A strong believer in shared leadership, Drue has implemented grade-level teams, department teams, and a Student Equity Response Team to review student data and adjust individual plans. He has created a culture in which teachers take full responsibility for student achievement, and where many have grown to become successful administrators themselves. Drue involves parents and the community with programs such as the parent-run K-5 Art Literacy and Camps for Kids, a local non-profit organization which provides financial assistance for after-school activities. He is especially proud of the fact that in the past seven years, all English Learners have exited the ESL program before going on to high school. He holds a double B.A. in Spanish and International Studies from the University of Oregon and an M.A. in Educational Administration from California State University.
