“Teachers know that I firmly believe in ‘no excuses’ and ‘failure is not an option’,” says Jolie Hardin. “This belief helps maintain our high academic standards, and our teachers strive to be the best they can be each year.” Hardin has been principal of Matt Arthur Elementary since 2004. The suburban school serves a population of 700 pre-kindergarten through grade 5 students. Under Hardin’s leadership, the site has won several state-level awards recognizing its academic strides. The honors include the Georgia governor’s Platinum Award for the Greatest Gains in Student Achievement. Hardin keeps everyone in her school focused on student achievement by making learning a priority for children and adults alike. She fosters a professional learning community among teachers and allows them to teach creatively. For her own professional growth, she pursues opportunities to stay abreast of best practices in education in and outside the district. She has served as a presenter at education conferences, sharing professional knowledge with other school administrators throughout her state. Hardin also has benefited her profession by earning national certification as a principal mentor and using her expertise to support new principals in her district. She received a B.S. from Georgia Southern University, an M.Ed. from Georgia College and State University, and an Ed.D. from Argosy University in West Georgia.
