Candidates are asked to submit an electronic competition application along with a dissertation abstract and full dissertation (finalists only) for consideration by NAESP’s Dissertation Judge Panel.

1.   The electronic competition application requires the following information:

  • Contact information

  • Dissertation title and abstract

  • Dissertation’s alignment to Rethinking Principal Evaluation domains (www.naesp.org/rethinking-principal-evaluation)

  • Description of how the study contributes to research literature on school leadership or principal evaluation

  • Hypothesis or research questions explored in dissertation study

  • Statement of dissertation study’s significance (including its connection to existing literature in the field)

  • A full description of research procedures used in the study, including:

    • Experimental or research conditions and settings

    • Nature of the sample or population

    • Data collection procedures employed (including a description of the instruments or methods)

    • Analysis procedures used in the study

    • Full presentation of other relevant information (including steps taken to assure protection of human subjects)

    • Steps taken to combat threats to validity

  • The dissertation’s findings

  • Conclusions of the dissertation’s study

2.   A copy of your dissertation abstract must be submitted via email to Honor Fede at hfede@naesp.org or via fax at 1-800-396-2377 – attn.: Honor Fede-2013 Dissertation Application.  Should you have any questions, please contact Ms. Fede at 703-518-6256.

3.   Only doctoral students who have completed and successfully defended their dissertations between July 1, 2011 and June 30, 2012 will be considered for this year’s competition.   Dissertations should be focused on school leadership or principal evaluation.

4.   The dissertation award competition is open now and will close on April 30, 2013 at 5:00 p.m. (eastern standard time).
