Promising Practice: Parent/Family Involvement

WIDER HORIZONS

This volunteer-sponsored program provides after-school opportunities that extend and enrich the lives of our students.  Parent, community, and staff volunteers conduct a variety of co-curricular activities that engage students in grades K-8.  Sessions can be single activities, within a series of weeks, or run for the entire school year.  The activities range from supporting wellness (snowshoeing, running club, cooking), academics (writing, book club), or arts and crafts (recycled card-making, nature crafts).  At this time, six to 10 activities occur each semester and are generally free or have a minimal cost.
