Mary Sheey Yilk's Story

Mary Sheehy Yilk
Elementary Principal

I am so concerned that the federal government has made many rules with NCLB due to the inadequate schools in large cities. The schools that I am familiar with do not have the same problems. The one size does not fit all.

  • "I really liked the assessment process that Nebraska had before the feds did not accept our procedures. Nebraska was doing it right!  Making all teachers accountable for developing a regional/state assessment and being part of the scoring. This really made a huge difference in classroom instruction," Mary Sheey Yilk, Nebraska.

Title I

  • "If Title I is changed to a more competitive, yearly model, the fear is we would lose a great deal of funding, as Wyoming's rural numbers wouldn't necessarily qualify us under the proposed guidelines," Alleta Baltes, Wyoming.

General School Leadership

Leaving the behind the familiar, pioneers ventured to the West to begin a new life on the frontier.  Never traveling alone, groups of pioneers joined together in covered wagons.  Like a slow moving train, the caravan traveled only 10 to 15 miles in a day. Inclement weather limited travel often to one mile in a day.  Inspired to create a new life, the pioneers moved forth beyond the boundaries of the known world.  The elements did not limit the expansion.
