American Citizenship Award (ACA)

The American Citizenship Award recognizes students who are school or community leaders, possess strength of character, promote citizenship, or other similar characteristics of leadership. NAESP and the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) jointly administer the American Citizenship Award. Model students who receive this prestigious honor inspire and encourage other students to strive to be better citizens.

Eligibility and Criteria

Principals bestow the American Citizenship Award on students who:

  • Participate in school and/or community service.
  • Show a positive attitude toward classmates, school, and community.
  • Display an understanding and appreciation of civic responsibility.
  • Possess the strength of character and the courage to do what is right.
  • Promote citizenship with their school or community through other activities.
