Powell Calls on Educators to be “America’s Promise” for Children

As Gen. Colin L. Powell, USA (Ret.), stepped into the spotlight of the joint NAESP and National AfterSchool Association conference session, he graciously accepted an enthusiastic welcome. Principals and fellow educators were so awed by Powell that they awarded him a thunderous applause and a standing ovation, all for simply approaching the podium. Corwin Shares His Passion for the Natural World During Keynote Address

Following a series of humorous video clips from Animal Planet’s The Jeff Corwin Experience, show host and conservationist Jeff Corwin stepped out on the stage to address the audience during the Third General Session. He noted the diversity of our animal planet and how we love to reflect on the marvels of faraway places but, he explained, the natural resources in the U.S. rival any ecosystems in the world. more...

Principals Briefed About ARRA Funds by Department of Education

Need cash to make a difference for your students? Mike Smith, senior counselor to U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan, has some ideas on how to make this a reality. Smith gave a fast-paced and interesting presentation titled "How the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act Will Impact Schools at the Local Level" on Sunday.
