As Gen. Colin L. Powell, USA (Ret.), stepped into the spotlight of the joint NAESP and National AfterSchool Association conference session, he graciously accepted an enthusiastic welcome. Principals and fellow educators were so awed by Powell that they awarded him a thunderous applause and a standing ovation, all for simply approaching the podium.
